NTPC Limited (a Government of India Enterprise) is a leading power generation company of India with total installed capacity of 65,825 MW (including JVs). It is one of the most efficient power companies in India, having operations that match global standards.

The role of Grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) is critical in long-range resource planning under high variable renewable energy scenarios and its role in providing fast responding, high-quality energy services for ancillary operations is already proven across large power systems in the world. Central Electricity Authority (India) Optimal Generation mix report outlines the need for 27 GW of grid-scale battery energy storage systems by 2030 with four hours of storage.

NTPC is geared up to play a pivotal role in India's adoption of renewable energy and further integration with the grid having recently enhanced its target of having 60 GW of Renewable Energy capacity by 2032.

As part of NTPC’s energy transition towards greening the grid, the BESS facility at NTPC premises will smoothen the integration of large amount of variable renewable energy in the Indian grid.
Through this initiative, NTPC would like to implement a Grid-scale BESS at the appropriately chosen power station(s) of NTPC to provide the Indian grid with a flexible storage system and extend the facility for ancillary operations to enhance the reliability of the grid.

In this regard, NTPC Ltd. has invited Global Expression of Interest (EoI) on 26 June, 2021 from Indian/Global Company/their Consortium/Affiliates/Representatives.

The last date of submission of EoI is 10th August 2021.
