The Embassy of India in Stockholm organised the International Gita Mahotsav 2025 at Stockholm University on 28 November 2025, celebrating the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad-gita and its universal message of balance, duty, and self-realisation.
More than 200 attendees participated in the celebration, including members of the Indian diaspora, students, faculty, spiritual leaders, and guests from diverse cultural and professional fields.
The event commenced with welcome remarks by H.E. Mr. Anurag Bhushan, Ambassador of India to Sweden, who reiterated the importance of the life lessons from the Bhagavad-gita in cultivating inner strength, mindfulness, and ethical living in the modern world.
This was followed by the Keynote Address by H.E. Mr. Christian Kamill, Ambassador for Intercultural and Interfaith Dialogue, who reflected on the Gita’s enduring message of harmony, detachment, and purposeful action — drawing parallels between the Gita’s philosophy and the values of diplomacy, balance, and service.
The programme featured video messages by eminent spiritual leaders, including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (Art of Living), H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji (Parmarth Niketan), Sri Madhu Pandit Prabhu (ISKCON), H.H. Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji, and Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati Ji, whose insights underscored the relevance of the Gita in leading a life guided by wisdom and compassion.
A panel discussion on “Leadership, Focus, and Stress Relief through the Teachings of the Gita” followed, featuring Prof. Ferdinando Sardella, Shri Mukund Dasa, Mrs. Ujjwala Andersson, and Bramhachari Somesh Chaitanya, moderated by Mrs. Richa Soni Rai. The discussions provided an enriching exchange of perspectives connecting ancient philosophy to contemporary life.
The evening also included captivating cultural performances by Kalashaala and Sanskriti Group, and a soulful kirtan by ISKCON devotees, along with an exhibition displaying the Bhagavad-gita in 38 languages. The programme concluded with a vegetarian dinner and networking session, providing participants the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations on universal harmony and inner well-being.
The event was co-organised in collaboration with the Bhakti Yoga Society at Stockholm University, whose members supported venue arrangements, volunteer management, and the overall execution of the Mahotsav.
The International Gita Mahotsav 2025 served as a vibrant platform for spiritual reflection, cultural exchange, and strengthening of community bonds, reaffirming the enduring relevance of the Bhagavad-gita as a guide to living with wisdom, purpose, and peace.
