INDIAN PASSPORT SURRENDER CERTIFICATE APPLICATION
Under the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955, Indian citizens are NOT allowed to hold DUAL Citizenship. If a person had ever held Indian nationality (and Passport) and subsequently voluntarily obtained nationality/Passport of another country, he/she ceases to be an Indian national (as per Section 9 of Citizenship Act) and is required only to surrender his/her Indian Passport.
Step 1

Upload photo and signature as per the official guidelines : ICAO Photo Guidelines and Signature Guidelines
Step 2
Make online payment for the applicable service: Fees for Passport Services
Step 3
Book an appointment through Embassy’s website for physical submission of documents at the Embassy: Book Appointment
Check list for documents required for surrender certificate:

Duly filled and printed online application form with one blue ink signature on the last page in signature box. In case of minor, applicant’s thumb print impression required on first page and either parent is to sign on last page.

Self attested copy of Swedish Passport.

Self attested copy of Certificate of Registration/Naturalization of foreign nationality (Medborgarskap bevis)

Self attested copy of latest Indian Passport (first and last information page)

Latest Original Indian Passport to be surrendered.

Photograph and signature / thumb print to be uploaded and submitted online as per the ICAO standards strictly effective from 01 September 2025. Upload photo and signature as per the official guidelines : ICAO Photo Guidelines and Signature Guidelines

Latest Person Bevis or Extract of Population register issued by Skatteverket under applicant’s name for the residents of Sweden in English.

Payment fee receipt of SEK 396 along with applicant’s first name and application number on the message box. BANKGIRO NO. of Embassy : 5816-4930

For minor applicant both parents latest valid passport copies (self-attested copy of first and last information page).

In case the applicant wishes the document to be sent back to him/ her by post, he/ she is requested to send a self- addressed envelope bearing a bar code number with Internetbetald waybill (Rekommenderat brev) generated through Post Nord (https://portal.postnord.com/skickadirekt)
In case, you are unable to print the rekommenderat brev, it can be sent through email at

Renunciation of Indian Citizenship
This service is applicable only to Indian nationals/Indian passport holders and not for those who already hold Foreign/Swedish nationality/passport.
