Emergency Certificate

An Emergency Certificate is a one-way travel document which authorizes an Indian national to enter India. It is issued to those whose passport has been lost, stolen or damaged and to whom a new passport cannot be issued immediately. This service is primarily extended with the objective of ensuring a transit passenger´s return to India.

You may apply for this service in case:

1. You are an India national on a Tourist/Schengen visa visiting Sweden and your passport is lost / damaged

2. If for any reasons, you want to travel to India on emergency basis and your current passport cannot be used for reasons of expired validity/damaged/lost.

Step 1

Apply online at : Passport Seva Portal

Upload photo and signature as per the official guidelines : ICAO Photo Guidelines and Signature Guidelines

Step 2

Make online payment for the applicable service: Fees for Passport Services

Emergency Certificate (Only for travel back to India)

1. Duly filled and printed online application form with one ink signatures last page in signature box. Kindly mention proper Indian address in application form for purpose of Police verification (two addresses are required in the application form, one address should be from India and other/current address in Foreign country). 2. Two passport-size (2 inch x 2 inch) recent colour photographs with frontal view of the full face with white/light background with dark coloured dress

3. Photograph, to be uploaded online, should be as per as per ICAO standards strictly from 01 September, 2025 .

4. Self-attested copies of first and last page of your current passport

5. Self-attested copy of Residence Permit/ Work permit front & back side Proof of payment of SEK 162/- Bank Giro No. 5816-4930

6. Copy of confirmed ticket to India

Please be advised that incomplete applications will not be considered and will not be accepted by the Embassy.
