Application for fresh OCI Card

The guidelines for applying new Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card and re-issue of OCI card are available on the website of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India at www.ociservices.gov.in.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the online OCI application at https://ociservices.gov.in/, print the completed application form, and sign it at the designated places.

  2. Upload a recent photograph and signature while completing the online application. The photograph must meet the prescribed specifications (51 mm × 51 mm). Please refer to the photo specifications available on the OCI portal.

  3. All mandatory supporting documents must be uploaded to the OCI portal before submitting the application to the Embassy. Applications with incomplete or missing uploads are liable to be rejected or kept pending until the required documents are uploaded.

  4. Applicants may submit their OCI application either in person (by prior appointment) or by post along with all the required documents.

  5. Applicants visiting the Embassy of India, Stockholm in person must book a prior appointment and visit the Embassy only on the date and time mentioned in the appointment confirmation. Click here

  6. Please arrive at the Embassy 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete the security and entry formalities.

  7. Applicants submitting their application by post must ensure that all the required documents, prescribed fee, and a self-addressed prepaid one REK return envelope/waybill (originals are to be returned by post) are enclosed.

  8. Applicants must submit all the required supporting documents along with the prescribed document checklist. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

  9. Please carry original current valid passport and cancelled Indian passport for verification if submitting the application in person.

  10. For minor applicants, the required declarations and documents may be signed by either parent, wherever applicable.

  11. The OCI application must be completed online before submission. Please refer to the How to Apply section below for detailed instructions.

Check list of documents for Adult Applicants (18 years and above)

Submit the following self-attested documents, as applicable:

  • Hard copy/printout of duly filled in online Application form (https://www.ociservices.gov.in./)

  • Original and copy of current / Swedish passport.

  • Copy of Swedish Citizenship Certificate (Medborgarskapsbevis), if applicable (not required if the applicant is a Swedish citizen by birth).

  • Original and copy of cancelled Indian passport (if previously held).

  • Copy of Surrender/Renunciation Certificate (if applicable).

  • Evidence of Indian origin, where applicable, together with proof of relationship.

  • Copy of marriage certificate (if applicable).

  • Copy of the latest three months' salary slips or a copy of the Employment Contract.

  • Copy of spouse's passport (if applicable).

  • Name change certificate or other supporting documents, if applicable.

  • Copy of payment receipt of SEK 2873/-

  • Any additional documents, as applicable, depending on the basis of the OCI application

  • A copy of the payment receipt/proof of payment must be uploaded to the OCI portal and enclosed with the physical application

Checklist of documents for Minor’s Application

  • Hard copy/printout of duly filled in online Application form (https://www.ociservices.gov.in./)

  • Copy of Swedish passport

  • Copy of Medborgarskap/ Citizenship certificate

  • Copy of cancelled Indian passport

  • Copy of Surrender certificate

  • Copy of familjebevis (Extract of the population register) from Skatteverket on parents’ name

  • Copy of parent’s passport

  • Copy of parent’s marriage certificate

  • Copy of birth certificate (in case born in India), or

  • Förlössning journal from hospital / Fodelse Register utdrag from Skatteverket (in case of born in Sweden)

  • Copy of payment receipt of SEK 2873/-

Checklist of documents for Foreign Spouse’s Application

  • Hard copy/printout of duly filled in online Application form (https://www.ociservices.gov.in./)

  • Original and copy of Current passport

  • Copy of Medborgarskap/ Citizenship certificate (ignore if not applicable)

  • Original and copy of Spouse current valid passport

  • Original and copy of OCI (ignore if not applicable)

  • Copy of Spouse cancelled Indian Passport and copy of surrender certificate

  • Original latest apostilled and copy of marriage certificate (Please note that OCI card can only be applied after two years of marriage. If you get a divorce, you must have your OCI card cancelled)

  • Copy of familjebevis (Extract of the population register) from Skatteverket

  • Copy of birth certificate of applicant

  • Copy of applicant's both parents’ passport

  • Copy of current 3 months of salary slip/Employment contract

  • Copy of current 3 months of salary slip/Employment contract of Spouse (ignore if not applicable)

  • Copy of payment receipt of SEK 2873/-

The applicants who are applying for OCI cards on the basis of their spouse (Foreign Spouse Application), the processing time may be much longer than usual and in-person interview is mandatory with both husband and wife at the Indian Mission.

All applicants who are applying for OCI card on spouse basis under section 7A(1)(d) of Citizenship Act, 1955 need to come to the Embassy for personal interview, date of which will be communicated by email after receiving the application.

Application fee for OCI card is mentioned below:

· Fresh OCI Application – SEK 2873
· Passport Updation after 3 month of issuance – SEK 290

The fee must be transferred to the Embassy’s bank account and mention Name of the applicant and the service applied for (Bank Giro No. 5816-4930). It is mandatory to give the following details in the Message box (Meddelande box) of the transaction sheet.
