Registration as Overseas Indian Electors

Since 2011, after insertion of a new section 20(A) in the Representation of the People Act, 1950 by the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act, 2010, every overseas Indian citizen whose name is not included in the electoral roll and who has not acquired the citizenship of any other country and who is absent from his place of ordinary residence in India owing to employment, education or otherwise is entitled to have his/her name registered in the electoral roll of the constituency in his place of residence in India as mentioned in his passport. After enrolment, an overseas elector will be able to cast his/her vote in an election in the Constituency, in person, at the polling station provided for the part where he/she is registered as on overseas elector.
