Important changes in procedure for OCI cards and OCI miscellaneous services from November 23, 2015

Instructions relating to submission of OCI and OCI Misc. Service

From 23rd November, 2015, all applicants for registration as OCI cardholder or for OCI Miscellaneous services are requested to follow the procedure mentioned below:

i) The applicant shall submit the application forms online (https://passport.gov.in/oci) and upload the requisite documents (self-attested), photograph and signature (in the case of minors who cannot sign, left hand thumb impression) along with the application.

ii) Originals of the supporting documents have to be submitted to the Embassy for prior verification.

iii) If there is any deficiency in the application/uploaded documents/photograph, the Embassy will inform the applicant by email. The applicant may then submit the required documents to the Embassy, who will take necessary action to upload the same on the online system.

iv) When the application is uploaded after verification of documents and processed by the Embassy, the applicant will get an auto email informing 'Application received and is under process'. Thereafter, the originals of the supporting documents will be returned to the applicant.

v) If any applicant has to renounce his/her Indian citizenship, the application for renouncing of Indian citizenship should be submitted separately before applying for OCI card.

vi) Applicants who may have difficulty in filling up the applications forms online are welcome to come the Embassy with prior appointment so that they can be given necessary assistance. The telephone numbers and email address for requesting an appointment are given below:
